Anna Palko (1888-1969) - Michael Rogula(1872-1942)
Children(6): Rudolph, Alexander, Margaret, Michael Jr., Anna and Mary.
Anna and Michael were both from Austria, emigrating through Ellis Island, N.Y. They were married in Pueblo, CO at St. Mary's Catholic Church on January 24, 1905.
Mike worked at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Co. until the family moved to Tennessee about 1924, to try farming.
Their land was in Swan Pond, across the Big Emory River from Andrew Palko's farm. In the summertime the families could drive their wagons across the stream to visit each other. During the winter when the water was higher, boats were used to ford the river about where Palko Beach was. (The location of the 1993 Family Reunion.)
Their home was completely destroyed during the 1929 flood. The family was lucky to get out alive. The Red Cross built them a four-room house.
Rudy and Alex Rogula worked for a time at the Eureka Fundry in Chattanooga, TN. Rudy then moved to Cleveland, OH and the twins, Anna and Mary, followed to find work. After Mike died, Anna also moved to Cleveland. Margaret remained in Roane County. Mike, Jr., was a patient at Lyons View Hospital in Knoxville for many years.
The family later sold the farm to A.B. Long Co. A quarry occupies part of the site today.
